What’s the fuss about solution dyed carpets?
You may have noticed the substantial range of solution dyed nylon carpets in our stores… and wondered what all the fuss was about! Solution dyed carpets are inherently different from other carpet choices, and choosing solution dyed is a fantastic way to help ensure longevity in your floors. Today we see what all the solution- dyed carpet fuss is about!
The solution dying process
Solution- dyed carpets are made by dyeing the nylon base before it is extruded (drawn out from the raw liquid material) into yarn. This allows much more complete coverage of each of the tiny individual threads that made up the nylon fibres, which leads to plenty of benefits!
Stain and odour resistance
The solution dyeing process means that these carpets have each tiny thread coated with dye. This makes the carpet fibres far more impervious to outside fluids, meaning that your carpets look better and smell better as they age!
Sun fade resistance
The solution dyeing process also makes carpets much more resistant to sunfade. Because the colour is impregnated more thoroughly into the fibres, the overall proportion of dye in the carpet which is exposed to sunlight is lowered. This means that solution dyed nylon carpets look more vibrant for longer.
Colour options
You may have read that solution dyed nylon carpets come in a more limited colour palette than other carpet fibre types … this is fortunately untrue! Godfrey Hirst is the main manufacturer of solution dyed carpets and their solution- dyed colour palette includes around 1 million shades. Beyond even cyan, teal, aqua and turquoise!
Can I get solution dyed wool carpets?
The solution dyeing process is only used with nylon. Wool comes off the sheep in bales, so it is not possible to get the same fibre coverage that can occur with nylon, a manufactured fibre.
With so many benefits, solution dyed nylon carpets are one of the hardest wearing and most sensible flooring solutions.
