Can Carpets Etc… remove our existing floor coverings and/or move my furniture?

Yes we can, at a minimal cost.  When you are ready to go ahead with your new flooring let your local Carpets Etc… staff member know and they can provide a quote for you.

How important is Underlay?

The manufacturers of underlay produce a range of qualities, all of which will be adequate under your new carpet. At Carpets Etc… we sell only platinum foam underlay. Choose your carpet and ask to step on it with the underlay under it. The higher the quality of foam underlay the more luxurious it will feel to your feet, the more support it will give your new carpet and the quieter it will make your home, especially in second floor installations and on staircases. It is recommended that you change your underlay when you replace your carpet. Underlay wears as the carpet wears, leaving it with the wear patterns of the old carpet. It is important to note that a manufacturer may void a carpets warranty if laid on old underlay.

How long will it take to install floor covering in my home?

Depending on the size of your home, most installations are completed within one day. However, your local Carpets Etc… store can give you a better idea once they see a plan of your home or following a free measure and quote.

How much does a Timber/Laminate floor cost?

The cost depends on the style and type selected. It is best to contact your nearest Carpets Etc… store to get a more accurate quote on the style you prefer.

Should I buy a plush or twist pile carpet?

A plush pile carpet is very luxurious and comfortable to live with. A twist pile carpet has the added benefit of minimising the appearance of tracking or foot marking. It is recommended you select products depending on your lifestyle and the foot traffic in your home.

What is the difference between a broadloom metre and a square metre?

A broadloom metre is actually 3.66 square metres, i.e. 1 metre cut from a carpet roll which are normally 3.66 metres in width. It is always a good idea to compare the square metre cost of carpet against other floor coverings such as ceramic tiles or vinyl and timber as they are specifically priced by the square metre and a better comparison of value can be seen.

Which is better, Wool or Nylon carpet?

There are various qualities of Wool and Nylon carpets available across a range of price points. Each fibre has its own benefits. Different fibres will suit different individual needs. For specific recommendations please contact your nearest Carpets Etc… Store.

What’s the fuss about solution dyed carpets?
You may have noticed the substantial range of solution dyed nylon carpets in our stores… and wondered what all the fuss was about! Solution dyed carpets are inherently different from other carpet choices, and choosing solution dyed is a fantastic way to help ensure longevity in your floors. Today we see what all the solution-dyed carpet fuss is about!

The solution dying process
Solution-dyed carpets are made by dyeing the nylon base before it is extruded (drawn out from the raw liquid material) into yarn. This allows much more complete coverage of each of the tiny individual threads that made up the nylon fibres, which leads to plenty of benefits!

Stain and odour resistance
The solution dyeing process means that these carpets have each tiny thread coated with dye. This makes the carpet fibres far more impervious to outside fluids, meaning that your carpets look better and smell better as they age!

Sun fade resistance
The solution dyeing process also makes carpets much more resistant to sunfade. Because the colour is impregnated more thoroughly into the fibres, the overall proportion of dye in the carpet which is exposed to sunlight is lowered. This means that solution dyed nylon carpets look more vibrant for longer.

Colour options
You may have read that solution dyed nylon carpets come in a more limited colour palette than other carpet fibre types … this is fortunately untrue! Godfrey Hirst is the main manufacturer of solution dyed carpets and their solution-dyed colour palette includes around 1 million shades. Beyond even cyan, teal, aqua and turquoise!

Can I get solution dyed wool carpets?
The solution dyeing process is only used with nylon. Wool comes off the sheep in bales, so it is not possible to get the same fibre coverage that can occur with nylon, a manufactured fibre.

With so many benefits, solution dyed nylon carpets are one of the hardest wearing and most sensible flooring solutions.

Nylon carpet is one of the best carpet options for use in the home. Known for its durability, this type of carpeting can be used anywhere in the house or even in some outdoor environments. Here are a few of the benefits that are associated with nylon carpet, as well as some examples of how this floor covering option can be used to best advantage.

One of the most important advantages of nylon carpet is the fact that the carpet fibres can stand up to a lot of wear and tear. This makes the use of nylon carpeting especially practical in areas where there is a lot of foot traffic. Hallways are an ideal location for carpet of this type. In addition, dens or family rooms benefit from the presence of nylon carpet, since the synthetic fibres hold their shape longer than many other types of fibres. As a result, the pile of the nylon carpeting looks new and fresh for many more years than other carpeting selections.

Along with the durability, nylon carpet is also very easy to clean. This is particularly important if the carpeting is used in areas such as the dining room or kitchen. The stain resistant qualities of the synthetic carpet fibres are especially important when there is a food or beverage spill to clean up. Since the makeup of the carpeting slows the process of seeping into the fibre, there is a much better chance of cleaning the spill before any type of permanent stain can develop.

The nylon carpeting of today is also much more resistant to fading than in times past. This is because the dyes are applied to the fibres before the carpet is woven. Previously, the dye was added after the carpeting was created, leaving only a surface tint to the fibres. With the colour all the way through each fibre, a nylon carpet can hold up to direct sunlight for many years and still look great.

All the properties of nylon carpet make it ideal for uses that are completely unsuitable for wool or other natural fibre carpeting. A nylon indoor-outdoor carpet is ideal for use on patios, in sunrooms, or even alongside a backyard pool. In the house, nylon carpeting can be installed in a bathroom without worrying about staining or damage from moisture. With a relatively low price tag that makes nylon an affordable carpet option for those on a budget and with the versatility to be installed just about anywhere around the house, nylon carpet is well worth considering.

What you need to know when purchasing polypropylene carpets

Polypropylene carpets are one of the most popular types of carpet as they are the most affordable and would be one of the most found carpets in domestic homes, due to its affordability and durability making up 80% of sales.

Polypropylene is a fully synthetic carpet which means it can be cleaned very easily.

Stain resistance plays an important role when selecting your new carpet hence it being so popular in domestic and rental properties. The wear and tear of your carpet also plays an important part and that's exactly what you get with this type of carpet, hard wearing as well as affordable.

Polypropylene is not as resilient as Nylon also not as commonly used in carpet fibres however this particular fibre is becoming much more popular being very cost effective, durable and practical in any circumstance. It is also keeping up with the fashionable trends now available in textured patters and designs in the latest colours.

Polypropylene (Olefin carpet fibre)
Olefin carpet fibre is strong, resists wear and permanent stains and is easy to clean. It is colour-fast because the colour is added in the production of the fibre. It is used in both indoor and outdoor installations because of its resistance to moisture and mildew, it also resists static electricity.
Olefin carpet fibre is also used in the making of synthetic grass for sports surfaces such as used for tennis and hockey.

You will also find it is good in the home in outside areas like patios and also in game rooms. Many Berber carpets are made of Olefin carpet fibre as they are better in loop carpets. Olefin fibres are colour-fast as the production process involves mixing polypropylene with the dyes.
Once again and most important aspect of all Polypropylene carpets are that they are strong, mildew resistant, moisture resistant, well priced and easy to clean.

Main Advantages:
Solution dyed colours
Good cover and bulk
Abrasion resistant
Stain resistant
Low static
Favourably priced
Resists fading

Wool wins hands down when it comes to looking natural – just as nature intended. Trying to imitate the naturalness of wool is very flattering, but nothing looks and feels like wool better than wool itself – it’s a hard act to follow.

Here are some facts that make choosing wool carpet an easy decision:

Hard wearing and durable
We have access to the best wool in the world – New Zealand wool! Wool has a natural bounciness and keeps its good looks for longer.

Easy to clean
Wool is naturally resistant to spills and soiling. The outer fibre doesn’t soak up spills straight away – allowing time to scoop up, or soak up accidents.

Anti-allergenic
Wool does not promote the growth of dust mites or bacteria and is naturally anti-allergenic. A regular vacuum will remove dust particles – and ensure they don’t circulate in the breathing zone.

Affordable
Wool carpet is one of the most affordable flooring choices there is. Just make sure you compare pricing on a like for like basis – a lineal carpet metre which is 3.6m wide (the width of a roll) as opposed to a square metre which is just 1m. Divide a carpet metre price by 3.6 to get the square metre price.

A natural insulator
Wool keeps you warmer in winter and cooler in summer. It has a unique ability to absorb moisture from the air when it’s damp and release it when it’s dry. It can save you up to 12% on your energy bills. Wall to wall carpet is also a fantastic sound insulator.

Sustainable and environmentally friendly
Wool carpets are made from a 100% sustainable and renewable resource. Australian wool carpet manufacturers must meet strict guidelines to produce them in an environmentally safe way.

Fire resistant
Wool is very difficult to ignite, burns slowly and is easy to extinguish. As a natural fibre, it gives off much less smoke and toxic gas in the event of a major fire than its synthetic fibres.
